From October 28th to November 1st, I had the chance to participate in iWeek for the second year in a row. iWeek is an initiative promoted by Tec de Monterrey that challenge students to join projects and try new IT applications, such as interacting with new technologies, track business trends or even get important certifications. This initiative belongs to TEC 21, the new and recently implemented educational model, which goal is to develop our skills in real life surroundings.
In this year’s iWeek, I was proud to be part of the project “Elimina la frontera entre lo real y lo virtual: diseña tu app de Realidad Aumentada para iOS” (Erasing the border between real and virtual: develop your Augmented Reality app for iOS devices). Our challenge? To create an app for iOS devices implementing Augmented Reality practices.
In order to achieve our goal, the first two days workshops and classes were offered, such as Programming using swift, Augmented Reality, Blender and 3D Models, and a Design Thinking workshop. Our challenge started and the journey begun after those quick courses . With my other two classmates (A software engineer and a robotics engineer), we started the ideation of the app we wanted to create. We decided to create a game when we chased many ideas and our creativity shot up.
We will be soon happy to present you “Nebula” which soon to be available in the App Store. Our game is about a spaceship that needs to survive from a meteorite shower and, as you beat new shapes, sizes and colours show up to hinder you. Our game’s best feature is that you have no other competitors but yourself, as your score keep going up!
I would really like to thank MSc. Yolanda Treviño, the teacher who led the project; BS. Joaquín Ramírez, PhD María Raquel Landa Cavazos and MSc. Silvia Ramírez, who were workshops tutors during that week; Marcelo and Lizzie, both students assistants; and, of course, my two fellow teammates (Jorge and Kathia) who trusted my leadership in the project to achieve our goal by getting full marks. Stay tunned!
